Hi William,
I have heard that when the baptisms were done on a given day that a paper was circulated and the parents were to put down their name as the parents of that child and if they didn't then it was just shown as ----- surname. Not good but sometimes things slip through the cracks.

Older residents of St. Andrews and vicinity will remember Mrs. Sarah A. HITCHINGS. For many years she has been cared for in the home of her husband's niece, Mrs. Wellington SPRAGUE, who aided by her husband, has surrounded her with every comfort. She was in her usual health and died peacefully with hardly a moment's warning. She leaves four sisters, two of whom, Mrs. STINSON and Mrs. PETTIGROVE reside in this place. The remains were interred beside those of her husband, Rev. Amos HITCHINGS of Oakland, Maine.
