The Malone Farmer
Wednesday, April 30th, 1930
The many friends and relatives were sorry to learn of the death of Mrs. Abigail Fletcher, 81, who died Saturday at 10:30 o'clock at her home. Mrs. Fletcher, who was an unusually active person for her years, has been enjoying her usual health up until about 4 weeks ago. The funeral was held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the home with interment in the family plot in the Hale Cemetery, the Rev. W. F. Clark, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church officiating. Mrs. Fletcher's maiden name was Abigail Johnson, eldest daughter of Thomas Johnson, a pioneer family of Dickinson, Franklin county, her parents having migrated from Vermont state about 1845. There were three other daughters in the family all of whom are deceased. She married December 17th, 1869, Levi Charles Fletcher of Stockholm, the eldest son of William and Fidelia Grandy Fletcher. Following his father's death, Mr. Fletcher purchased the farm home until he passed away in June 1916. William Fletcher's parents were among the very first families to settle in what is now the township of Stockholm, William being a direct descendant of the old house of Fletcher of origin of Walpole, New Hampshire, during the Pilgrim days. Levi Fletcher passed away fourteen years ago. Since then Mrs. Fletcher has made her home with her eldest daughter, Mrs. Edith Clark. She is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Norman Smith of Aurora, Ill.' one son, F. G. Fletcher of Norwood; and two grandchildren, Dorothy Smith and Carl Clark, the latter residing in Watertown.
