Captain Joseph Jones married Abigail Clark, daughter of Josiah and Patience B Clark. He was a settler at Damariscotta Saw Mills, as the place was early called. He was a selectman in Newcastle in 1763 and 1765. His settlement at Ballstown was doubtless soon after, as he was one of the officers of the plantation and later of the town. He permanently settled where Walter Nash now resides. He was captain of a company of militia which was in active service during the Revolutionar War. His pay tolls are among the Revolutionary records of the Massachusetts Archives.

Jonathan Jones, his brother, also settled at Jefferson.

They were sons of Cornelius Jones, who came from Exeter, NH and was one of the early settlers of Newcastle.
