Samuel Palmer was a son of Timothy Palmer and Jane Stickney of Rowley, Massachusetts. He married Anna Pearson 11 April 1764 at Rowley, Massachusetts. In 1769 Samuel and Anna, with their young family, moved to that part of Pownalborough later known as Alna, and soon afterwards to Pittston, where his farm was located in the southeastern part of town, close to Whitefield. At the time of his death, Pittston was a part of Lincoln County, and his estate is probated in Lincoln County.
His fieldstone marker was photographed by this contributor in 1990. It is broken and only the left half remains; the readable portion is:
