A special court declared William Gardiner, son of Dr Silvester Gardiner, "inimically disposed to this & the other United States of America" and packed him off to Bostons as "dangerous to the publick Peace & Safety." There, instead of imprisoning him, the authorities dismissed the charges against him, and Gardiner returned home "to enjoy the prvileges of a free subject, any judgment of a Special Court of Sessions in the County of Lincoln notwithstanding."
