      LOYALIST TO ANNAPOLIS {Nova Scotia}
      FROM NEW YORK - 1782

      A reprint from We Lived (A GENEALOGICAL NEWSLETTER OF NEW BRUNSWICK SOURCES published by Cleadie B. Barnett)

      Found among the papers of Amos Botsford, at the Public Archives of Canada. This item was submitted by J. S. Hughson. Many of these names appear on land petitions in NB. A careful check should be made to see if they are actually the same persons, or persons with similar names. People who went to NS at times moved on to NB for one reason or another. Nova Scotia was more heavily settled than NB at this time, and much of the good lands had been already granted by the time these Loyalist arrived. Better lands were available in NB, and friends and relatives were often settled there. The winters of 1782 and 1783 were very harsh, and many deaths occurred among the new settlers. Survivors often decided to move away from the coastal lands in NS.

      Return of Men, Women & Children arrived at Annapolis from New York 19th Octr. 1782 (360 persons)
