Joseph Farnham 26 1 is supposed to have moved from York to Lebanon previous to 1760. His son Joseph 39 3 was elected town-clerk in 1768 and held the office
for nineteen years in succession. He and his father were among the most prominent men of the town, often holding important offices at the same time. The "Gamp Hill Cemetery" is a corner of his farm and was a grant made by him for the purpose. One of his children was the first buried there. He sold out and moved to Lancaster N. H. about 1790. TEXT : The Expanded Family of Joseph 5 Farnham of York and Lebanon, Maine
      by Russell C Farnham
      ...
Joseph [Farnham] married at York on 25 September 1734 Mehitable Webber [York Vital Records p 122]. She was born at York on 13 August 1715, a daughter of Benjamin Webber and his first wife, Mehitable Allen [York Vital Records p 28]. After their marriage, Joseph and Mehitable lived in York...
Some time during the early 1750s, Joseph and two of his brothers Matthew and Paul Farnham, moved to Lebanon with their families. The exact date of the move is not know, bur Farnhams began showing up in the baptismal records of the Rochester, New Hampshire, church as early as 1753...
An entry in John E Frost's Maine Probate Abstracts (Camden, Maine 1991) indicates that Joseph died at Lebanon prior to 6 November 1779 when his son, Joseph Farnham Jr was appointed administrator of his father's estate (entry #13/322 p 787). The fact that this entry did not mention his wife led to the conclusions that Mehitable had predeceased him, although no death date has been found for her either at York or at Lebanon.
      ...
      Additional Research at the Courthouse
...Among the original papers in Joseph Farnham's probate packet (docket #5564) was a document showing that Joseph Farnham Jr was appointed administrator because "Eunice Farnham does not incline to administer the estate.."
...Clearly, Joseph did have a wife when he died in 1779. She was not the first wife, Mehitable Webber, but rather a second wife named Eunice. Whereas the widow would be appointed administratrix of her husband's estate, in this case Eunice declined, preferring that Joseph's eldest son perform the dutied instead of her. She was undoubtedly the Eunice Farnham who married Deacon Edward Burroughs in 1781, as her second husband.

It now seems probable that Joseph's first wife, Mehitable, died soon after the birth of her last child born at York in 1750. Joseph's married to Eunice may have occurred at Lebanon in the early days, before vital records were preserved there on a consistent basis. At that time, Joseph would have been in his late thirties. Eunice would have been in her twenties with many child-bearing years ahead of her. it is therefore likely that Joseph had additional children by Eunice, including some if not all of the remainig unidetified persons listed above (that is, Alice, Nathaniel, Mercy, and Barachias Farnham)...
