Then the above named Jonathan Trask Esqr Personally appeared and made oath to the truth of the able and foregoing Deposition by him subscribed before me
Jesse Rowell Justice of the Peace
[581/603]
I Hartley Gove of Bath in the County of Lincoln & State of Maine Merchant, aged Twenty Five years, testify & say that on the fifth day of November A 1817 one Samuel Johnson was indebted to me in the sum of four hundred sixty eight dollars & eighty cents, and being then unable to make payment offered the names of Thomas Trask Junr & Jonathan Trask as his sureties for the above sum, which were accepted & a note taken signed by said Samuel Johnson, Thomas Trask Jr & Jonathan Trask payable to the Rev Kiah Bailey, who was then my Guardian, not long after this Nicholas L Metchell Esq became my Guardian & the note was endorsed over by said Bailey, and an action commenced upon it by said Mitchell as my guardian, and the property of Thomas Trask Jr & Jonathan Trask was attached on the writ; and judgment was recovered on said action, at the Court of Common Pleas within & for the County of Lincoln, at the April Term of said Court AD 1820 against said Johnson, Thomas Trask Jr & Jona Trask for the sum of $552.55 & an execution issued on said Judgment which was levied on the real estate of said Thomas Trask Junr & Jonathan Trask on the 23d of May 1820 - the costs of which levy being $35.03 making my demand at that time $587.58. The whole of which was levied upon the real estate of said Thomas Trask Jr & Jonathan Trask & took all the real estae of said Thomas Trask Jr of much value; said Thomas was unable to redeem said real estate, and I have since sold it to another person. I further say that said Johnson, at the time of the levy was and ever since has been very poor & unable to refund any part of said demand and I verily believe that the levy of my execution on said Thomas Trask's property as aforesaid has so reduced him to poverty.

The town was undoubtedly named for Thomas Jefferson, who at that time was President of the United States. Tradition says that the name was suggested by Jonathan Trask, who was one of the active men in town affairs, and a great admirer of President Jefferson.
