      Joseph Glidden was born at Exeter about 1688; died after 6 May 1761, probably at Durham. By occupation he was a cordwainer. He married 1 Mary Smart of Exeter, daughter of Robert and Mary Smart. Administration on the estate of Robert Smart of Exeter was granted to his son William Smart of Exeter, 23 July 1718. William Smart died beore 17 September 1738 and administration de bonis non was granted 30 May 1730. Moses Leavitt of Strathan, Samuel Gilman, gentleman, and Edward Gilman, both of Exeter, Richard Mattoon, gentleman, and Walter Bryant, yeoman, both of New Market, were commissioned to divide the estate of Robert Smart, 13 April 1740

      One clause of the order of the Judge of Probate reads: "And to the Legal Representatives of Mary, the late wife of Joseph Glidden of Durham in said Province, Cordwainer (which Mary is now deceased and who was another of the daughter of the said Intestate) one of the said fourteen parts." The commission then reported: "14thly we have set off to the heirs of Mary, the wife of Joseph Glidden, one of the daughters of the sd Intestate...[NH Probate Records Volume 2 pages 57, 62, 63]

      Hence Joseph Glidden's wife, Mary died before 13 April 1740. He married 2 Dorcas Rollins d Lt Thomas Rollins of Stratham...The second wife of Joseph Glidden probably died at Durham between 22 November 1757 and 10 January 1759. [New Hampshire Provincial Deed Volume 67 Pages 209, 357]

      Joseph Glidden had a grant of 30 acres of land from the town of Exeter 12 April 1725. He had 8 1/3 acres laid out near the Little river in Durham (now in Lee) 23 March 1737. He was a soldier living on the south side of Oyster river and under the command of Capt John Smith Jr 29 July 1740. He was one of the committee of the town of Durham to make a contract with Rev John Adams for his salary as the Gospel minister of said town, 3 October 1748, and one of the petitioners for a bridge over the river which divides Stratham and New Market where the ferry is now kept or higher up the river at a place called the New Field 21 November 1746.

      Joseph "Gleden" and 85 others appear in a list of soldiers under the command of Capt John Smith Jr 16 year and upwards taken the last Traying day and dated at Durham 24 July 1740 "Coppyed out" 20 July 1740.

      He is earliest mentioned in the deed from John Lord of Exeter to Joseph Glidden and Charlied Glidden both of Exeter, of land near Lamprilo River being the fourteenth part of Six hundred acres granted to Moses Gilman now deceased. This deed was executed 20 June 1717. [Volume 10 Page 124]

      Joseph Glidden of Durham cordwainer sells Andrew Glidden of Durham yeoman land in Durham "at a Place Commonly Known by the name of Wadligh Falls & on the South Side of Lamperoal River," to wit beginning within one foot of the South east corner of Ebeneer Dow's house he bought of my son Joseph Glidden with all the buildings 6 May 1761. Witnesses: Sarah and Joseph Smith [Volume 65 Pail 109]

      Therefore Joseph Glidden the cordwainer of Exeter, New Market and Durham 1717 to 1761 is one and the same man.

Samuel Johnson and Lydia Remick of Balltown were married in Pownalborough and settled in the frontier plantation of Balltown shortly before the Revolution. Samuel John was a Continental soldier, serving nearly 2 years. His parents of Thomas Johnson and Esther Tuttle, two early settlers of the Barrington 42 40-acre lots, having come from Greenland, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Lydia Remick was born in York, Maine, daughter of Jacob Remick and Mary Grover (daughter of Matthew Grover and Hannah Freethy). Lydia's widowed mother Mary was first the widow of Benjamin Elwell. We know that Mary and Lydia were living in Madbury, New Hampshire, (adjacent to Barrington) in the 1760s. There is a possibility that Lydia Remick and Samuel Johnson knew each other before moving to mid-coast Maine in the early 1770s, Lydia to Pownalborough (where her brother Joseph Remick m Sarah Remick, who had children William Remick m Elizabeth Austin and Joseph Remick m Priscilla Noble) and Samuel to Newcastle. Samuel Johnson's siblings included Esther Johnson m Elijah Tuttle, Thomas Johnson m Abigail Berry, James Johnson, Charity Johnson m Solomon Hall, Andrew Johnson m Elizabeth Buzzell m Catherine Jackson, Lydia Johnson m Emmanuel Grace, and David Johnson m Martha Carpenter. Samuel Johnson of Charlotte County had children George Johnson m Lydia Ann Brisley, William Johnson m Annabella Simpson, Leonard Johnson m Jane Higgins, Benjamin Johnson m Elizabeth Ann Brisley, and Sarah Jane Johnson m William McClelland (McLelland). The Simpsons had several relatives both in Charlotte County, New Brunswick (St Andrews parish, St Croix parish, Dumbarton parish, Saint Patrick parish), and afield. Henry Simpson from Armagh, Ireland, was a brother of James Johnson. Henry's wife was named Mary; they had children James Simpson m Isabella Mitchell, Henry Simpson m Ellen Shea, Jacob Simpson m Clarissa Herald m Jane McCarrick, John E Simpson m Eleanor Jane Orr, Nicolina Simpson m James Guest, Abraham Simpson m Charlotte Kirby, Mary Ann Simpson m William Towle, and Samuel Simpson m Mary Carroll. Leslie Simpson was another brother of James and Henry. He had children Jane Simpson m Isaac Bard who lived in Boonville, Oneida, New York and Cheyenne, Laramie, Wyoming; Leslie Simpson m Catherine Levar who lived in St David parish; Elizabeth Simpson m John Creighton who lived in Haldimand and Cobourg, Northumberland West, Ontario; Isabella Simpson m Thomas Black who lived in St David parish; and Margaret Simpson m Francis A Dinsmore who lived in St David. William, another brother, married Sybil Eastman and later Sarah McCann. His children were Joseph Andrew Simpson m Elizabeth Mary Johnson, Margaret Louise Simpson m William Henry Simpson. The Greenlaws were a very large family of Charlotte County, New Brunswick, and Deer Isle, Maine. Just after the Revolution, there were more than 3 dozen Greenlaws in Charlotte County, and the number kept growing. I have conducted extensive research on the Greenlaws. My closest Sullivans were James Sullivan who married Bridget Moriarty in Hartford Connecticut. James Sullivan was the son of Daniel Sullivan m Mary Shea who lived at Bunglasha, Corrawoolia, Lickeen, and Reennanallagane [Reenanalagane], Glenbeigh. Daniel was the sonf of Timothy Sullivan m Mary Coffey, of Drombrane, Bunglasha, and Corrawoolia, Lickeen. He was said to be from Dromod. There are countless other Sullivans associated with these families, both in Glenbeigh, Killorglin, Knockane as well as Hartford, Connecticut, and the many other places of settlement in Connecticut and Massachusetts. These Sullivans were known by the moniker Fiely. Bridget Moriarty was the daughter of James Moriarty m Mary Cronin of Boheeshil, Knockane, and Glannagilliagh, Killorglin. Their other children were Ellen Moriarty m John J Sullivan [brother of James Sullivan], Mary J Moriarty m Thomas Kennedy, Julia E Moriarty m John J Fitzpatrick, and Margaret Elizabeth Moriarty m Michael J Leahy m James Francis Farrell. James Moriarty was the son of Martin Moriarty m Honora Sullivan who lived at Glannagilliagh and Muingaphuca, Killorglin. Their other children included Ellen Moriarty m Michael Brennan, and Mary Moriarty m Eugene Grady. These Moriartys were known by the moniker Buony. James Sullivan m Bridget Moriarty had a son named James Joseph Sullivan who married Bridget Downey. Bridget Downey was born Bridget Doona who was the daughter Michael Doona and Ellen Griffin of Dromglass, Coolroe, Glenbeigh. I am also a descendant of Frank Romanski and Dominica Brodowski of Norwich, Connecticut. Frank was from Piatkowizna, Turosl, Kolno, Poland. Dominica was from Nowa Wies, Bakalarzewa, Suwalki, Podlaskie, Poland. I have collected extensive amounts of information regarding these families, both in Poland and Connecticut and Massachusetts.
