Listing by SIZE of tax assessment
To 1843 Tax List
NOTE: Several Tax Assessment Lists for St. David Parish, starting 1822, are in the Public Archives of New Brunswick Collections. Unfortunately the microfilms are extremely difficult to read. The list below is transcribed from a photocopy of the original manuscript, so should be easier to deal with. Note that the assessments listed here for July 1823 are for the land property alone. In addition, each of the resident individuals were required to pay a poll tax of 1 shilling. So the total tax bill for John Alexander (below) would be 4 shillings (3 + 1).
The records were transcribed by Tom Moffatt into a database, then tables created. So the order below is alphabetical, not that in the original document. There is also a listing by tax assessment, to better give a sense of the success or wealth of the individuals. Individuals listed with 0 0 are either young men living at home, or paid labourers, and they would still pay the poll tax of 1 shilling. A few names were difficult to decipher, and question marks are attached.
