Dear Sir [Thomas Knox Esqr Saint John]
Mr Garnett has been so obliging as to inform me that there has a few days ago come into the office a Grant for Lott No 70 up Waugh Waig Bay in favor of Mr John Mathewson and the kind concern you was pleased to express on the occasion for which be leave to return you my sincere thanks. In a Conversation had with Mr Jones on that Subject he said "That he never returned Mr Matheson for that Lott by particular desire of the Agents nor was it granted or any prospect of its being so when he was in Halifax on Public Business which was about the first of December last this information he particularly received from Mr Mathesons agent there who was then urging that Business but if you think the Grant Valid I am content, and beg leave in that case to request you would please to get me Lott No 28 on the East Side of Digdeguash River pointed out to Mr John Dowling, but struck out of the return by his own desire, and not returned or promised to any person as yet to Mr Jones's knowledge - I am with respect and Esteem Dear Sir
      Your Most Obedient
      Humble Servant
      S Spencer

Arnie Krause has him married in Scotland in 1791. Is this the same John Matheson? Did he return to Scotland and then to New Brunswick? It makes sense since John Mathewson is single in the 1784 Return. His Farm Lot at Waweig was abandoned by 1802.
