Jeremiah "Jerry" James Chessie
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Jerry at the Veteran?s Heath Unit, Fredericton, on Tuesday, July 1, 2008. Born at Yoho Lake, NB on December 2, 1917, son of the late James and Lillian (McLaughlin) Chessie.
Jerry was a WWII Veteran (1942-1945) having served with the Carleton York Regiment in Italy, Holland and Belgium. He also served peacetime duty in Egypt and Italy (1963-1964). He retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1968. Jerry was a lifetime member of the International Lions Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion, McAdam, NB.
Survived by his loving and devoted wife of sixty seven years, Pauline (Mazerolle) Chessie and six cherished children, Jerry Jr. of Toronto, Ont., Dawn Hughson and husband Milton of Fredericton, Jackie Jewett and husband Elbridge of Mactaquac, Judy Chessie of Kingston, Ont., Agnes Chessie and husband Stephen McGarvie of Fredericton and Cathy Piercy and husband Bo of St. Albert, Alberta; twelve grandchildren, Genevieve Chessie, Ann Marie and David Hughson, Jeremy-John and Robert Jewett, Hannah and Spencer Gibson, Patrick and Caroline Sheehan, Justin, Brandon and Lyndsay Piercy; two step-grandsons, Tye and Lucas McGarvie; four great grandchildren, Daniel and Leslie Jane Knox, Alex and Riley Hughson. He is also survived his brother Dual Chessie and wife Barbara of Yoho and sisters Theresa Little of McAdam, Margaret Gulliver of Fredericton and Velma White and husband Ken of Saint John. Predeceased by his parents, five brothers, Phil, Gabe, Hazen, Walter and Fearman; two sisters, Mary Goodine and baby Agnes Chessie.

The family will receive relatives and friends at Bishop?s Funeral Home, 540 Woodstock Road, Fredericton on Friday, July 4 from 4:00 PM to 9:00 PM. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 1500 Hanwell Road, Fredericton on Saturday, July 5 at 10:30 AM with Father Jack Dolan as celebrant. Interment will be held in St. Anthony?s Cemetery at 2:00 PM. Pallbearers will be Jerry?s seven grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Chessie, Greg Mazerolle, John Mazerolle and Kathleen MacLean.
Memorial contributions may be made to the River Valley Health Veteran?s Health Care Unit in Fredericton or the Harvey Station Lions Club.
