No 2036 John Grinlow's Will
Whereas I John Grinlow of Pennfield in the County of Charlotte yeoman this seventeenth day of August one thousand eight hundred and forty eight being of sound mind and memory though weak in Bodily health have thought fit to make my last will and testament. I do thefefore make and ordain it in the following manner that is to say such worldly goods wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me with in this life. I give devise and dispose of in the following manner and orm first my will is that all my Just and Lawful debts be paid out of my effects
Item my will is and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Beloved wife Elizabeth Grinlow all my farm, consisting of two lots of land number nine and number ten in a Grant to me lying between big and little Sturgeon Coves on which I now live containing in all ninety seven Acres with all the Houses rights and privileges thereunto belonging as is particularly described for and during the whole time that she shall remain my widow and moreover I give to my said wife all my household goods and kitchen furniture together with all my stock of cattle farming implement and all other my chattel property of every description as if particularly specified to dispose of as she shall think proper
Item my will is that should be said wife ever Marry after my deceased she shall at such Marriage yeild up and relinquish to my Nephew John Grinlow son of my Brother Ebenezer Grinlow one half of all my said Farm with the buildings now thereon or the profits thereof And further my will is that at the death of my said wife, my said Nephew John Grenlow shall have all my said Farm above mentioned to himself and his heirs but should my said Nephew John die leaving no Lawful Issue it shall go to my said brother Ebenezer Grinlow and his heirs.
Item my will is and I do hereby give and bequeath unto my Neice Mary Grinlow Daughter of Elijah Grinlow all my farm or Lot of land about twenty five Acres being the eastern half of lot number 8 on the south side of little Sturgeon Cove aforesaid and to her heirs Lawfully Begotten But should she died leaving no lawful issue the said farm of Lawn is to be disposed of to or through my said Nephew John Grinlow as in the farm before mentioned that is to say it shall go to the said John Grinlow and his lawful heirs but in the even of his having no Children or child Lawfully Begotten to Ebenezer Grinlow and his heirs and assigns forever I make and Ordain my Two Friends Joshua Knight and Wilmot Hawkins my Lawful Executors to execute this my last will and Testament According to the true Intent and meaning of it. In Witness whereof the said John Grinlow hath hereunto set his hand and seal the day and year above written. Signed sealed published and desclared by the said John Grinlow as and for his last will and testament in the presence of us who were present at the signing And sealing thereof

Be it remembered that on the thirteenth day of November AD 1848 before me Harris Hatch Esquire Surrogate of the County of Charlotte personally appeared Joshua Knight & Wilmot Hawkins Executors named in the within written will John Grinlow late of the parish of Penfield deceased hereunto annexed and were duly sworn to the Authenticity of the said will and to the faithful discharge of the Duties of the trusts thereby in him disposed by taking the oath of and Executore as by law required.

Be it remembered that on the thirteenth day of November in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and forty eight before me Harris Hatch Esquire Surrogate of the County of Charlotte personally appeared John Wood whose name subscribed as attesting Witness to the instrument hereunto annexed purporting to be the Will of John Grinlow late of the Parish of Pennfield in the County of Charlotte deceased and being duly sworn did depose & say that he did see the said John Grinlow sign the Said instrument (and that he at the same time published and declared the same to be his last will and Testament) and that at the time of such signing publishing and declaring he the said John Wood and one Daniel Scott and William Wallace whose names is also subscribed to the said Will as Witnsses attesting the execution thereod were all present and that the said John Grinlow appeared to him the said John Wood to be of sound and disposing mind and understanding and that the name John Wood, William Wallace, and Daniel Scott were Subscribed to the said Will by them the said John Wood, William Wallace and Daniel Scott respectively in the presence of each other and of the said John Grinlow
