It wasn't until March 1779 that Ephraim Seeley ended his stint with the Continental Army and took up with Emerich's Chasseurs. Given that his wife was from New York, and the Chasseurs were stationed there, there's no good reason to believe he was married long before this time. In fact, his wife's family may have been New York Loyalist, which may have played a role in his change of loyalty. It wouldn't be unreasonable to conclude that he was married about this time.
Ephraim Seeley may have had as many as 15 children, most likely born after 1779. According to a petition that he made in July 1785 he had 3 children who died since he settled, and 1 child was born. The next month a return of the settlement was taken, this only showing 1 child. Nine years later he baptized 6 children at th Anglican Church at Gagetown. A petition in January 1797 indicated he had 7 children at the time, another in March records 6.
It is tempting to say that Jerusha was the the one child first born in New Brunswick, but all records giving her age put her birth at much earlier, a range from 1771 to 1778. So let's say Ephraim and Anna were married about 1779 and Jerusha born not too long after. As for the discrepency with the number of children given in the petitions, I imagine it is just that-a discrepency. Jerusha was born before coming to New Brunswick, along with two other children. The other two died after settlement, and another was born. The first child born in New Brunswick was probably Gideon, likely after the August 1785 return.
The next 4 children are known and are the remaining part of the 6 baptized at Gagetown in 1794. Another child was born between then and another petition in 1797, but that child apparently died in 1797. Judging from the census of 1800, two more children were born between 1797 and 1800. Three more children were born between 1800 and 1810.
