Edward J. Burke, 67, of 4330 Northwest 48th Ave., Ft. Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., formerly of Washington Boulevard, Springfield, and retired appliance manager for Sears & Roebuck Co., West Springfield, died Wednesday at the Imperial Point Hospital, Ft. Lauderdale.
Born in Springfield, Nov. 13, 1908, he was educated in the Springfield schools. He was employed for 30 years by Sears & Roebuck Co. During World War II, he served as a sergeant with the 253rd Armored Field Artillery. He was an auxiliary member of the Springfield Fire Department. He was a member of the Indian Orchard Council 160 of the Knights of Columbus and the McDermott Court of the Massachusetts Catholic Order of Foresters.
His first wife was Edith Mae (Shaw) Burke, who died in 1965. He leaves his wife, Mary C. (Lyons) Burke; a son, Thomas E. Burke of Malden; a daughter, Miss Margaret E. Burke of San Francisco, Calif.; two stepsons, Thomas Stanton of West Springfield and Charles Stanton of Westfield; a brother, four sisters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral from the T.P. Sampson?s Co. Chapel of the Acres funeral home, Sixteen Acres, Tuesday morning followed by a service in the Holy Name Church.
