- Charles Glidden purchased a farm at the head of Damriscotta Salt River in 1752. He lived at a place called Walpole which was without the bounds of any town in 1768. In that year he sold his farm at the head of the Damariscotta Salt River on the east side of the Bay to his son Benjamin Glidden.
