- Hi William,
I found the marriage but it was not in Saint John. Actually I didn't find it in a county marriage record at all. I traced it through "Vital Stats from NB Newspapers" by Danny Johnson, where it was mentioned in volume 14 #3186. They were listed as both being from Fredericton. They were married at St. Paul's Church in Fredericton, York County (a Methodist Church) [my correction: Church of Scotland/ Presbyterian, later United Church of Canada, WDR] and the marriage is in the church records on microfilm but not in the civil records. I guess the minister forgot to put it in the civil record as he should have done. However, they were married on 13 April 1854 at the manse.

In FREDERICTON, N.B., St. Paul's the first church was opened in 1831. The first stated pastor was Dr.Birkmyre who was sent here by the Glasgow Colonial Society and was inducted in 1832. He returned to Scotland in 1841. Rev. John M. Brooke, D.D., a graduate of Edinburgh University, was inducted in 1843. He died in January, 1882, in the 81st year of his age, the oldest of the Kirk of Scotland ministers then in the Maritime Provinces. Rev. A. J. Mowatt succeeded Dr. Brooke till
1891, when he came to Erskine Church, Montreal.

- York County and Carleton County Probate Files indexes were searched for the subject names Henry Blake 1786-1932. I also search York and Carleton County Registry Office indexes on microfilm for the periods 1849-1873 and for 1832-1899. Unfortunately, I did not find the name Henry Blake in any of the above. In Carleton County Probate, I found these Blakes: Thelma 1918, William 1864 and Edith I Blake 1934. In York County Probate, I found these Blakes: Charles 1970, Emily 1925 and Mary 1966. In Carleton County Registry indexes, I found these Blake entries: Mercy, grantee; William, grantee; George, Mercy and William, grantor (seller) and William, copy of last Will. The Probate and Registry record groups I searched are where one finds Wills. If a subject name is not found in these records, a Will was not registered or probated.
