CHELSEA -- John Robert Hendsbee, longtime resident of Chelsea, passed on to be with the Lord on Friday, Sept. 16, 2005, at MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta.
He was born in Oakland on Jan. 14, 1931, the son of Arthur B. and Mary E. (Wrigley) Hendsbee.
He attended schools in Albion, and after school entered the Army, serving in Europe. In 1951, John married the former Erline Haskell, and they shared 54 years together. John worked for several years, and retired from the Veterans Administration hospital in Togus. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans.
John was a very generous man in many ways. He was always willing to donate or lend a helping hand whenever needed. He enjoyed listening to country fiddle music and spending time with his family. John loved the Lord.
He was predeceased by his parents; a daughter, Diane Hendsbee; and two brothers, Ted Hendsbee and George Hendsbee Sr. John is survived by his wife, Erline; his son, David Hendsbee of Chelsea; his daughter Pam Field and her husband, Robert, of Chelsea; his brothers Jim Hendsbee of Clinton, and Arthur Hendsbee of Windsor; his sisters, Faith Rankins of Randolph, Althea Carter of Michigan, and Dena Hubley of Florida; his grandchildren, Stephen Field, Ryan Field, Rick Hendsbee, Tim Hendsbee and Chris Hendsbee; his great-granddaughter, Cheyann Field; his daughter-in-law, Rhonda Hendsbee of Glenburn; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, sisters-in law and brothers-in-law.
A graveside service will be held at 12 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19, in the new Maine Veterans' Memorial Cemetery, Mount Vernon Road, Augusta, with the Rev. Brad Puckett officiating.
