    • John S. Jaczinski Jr.
      Waterford - John S. Jaczinski Jr., 88, of 19 Totoket Drive, Quaker Hill, passed away Thursday, Feb. 21, 2008, at Kindred Crossings East in New London.

      He was born Jan. 4, 1920, in New London, the son of John S. and Agnes (Brodaski) Jaczinski.

      John was married to the former Ruth Linkletter on June 24, 1950, in Groton.

      A graduate of the former Chapman Technical High School in New London, he enlisted in the Connecticut National Guard in 1939, and was ordered into Federal Service in 1941 with the 43rd Div., where he served until his discharge as a Korean conflict veteran in 1945. He was recalled to active duty in 1950 during the Korean conflict. In 1951 he was promoted to the rank of first lieutenant serving in Germany until his discharged in 1952. After returning to civilian life, he earned a bachelor of science and master of science degree at Central Connecticut State University. John then taught industrial arts at New London High School from 1945 until he retired in 1977.

      Besides his wife, he is survived by three sons, Col. John S. Jaczinski III, USAF (Ret), of San Antonio, Tex., Lt. Cmdr. James O. Jaczinski, USCG (Ret), of Quaker Hill, Lt. Col. Joseph J. Jaczinski, USAF, of Belleville, Ill.; two sisters, Laura Zulowski of Norwich, and Eleanor Peabody of New London; a brother, Edmund Jaczinski of Jemison, Ala.; and two grandchildren, Jana and Justin Jaczinski of Belleville.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, Quaker Hill. Burial will follow in the Cedar Grove Cemetery, New London. Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Byles Memorial Home, 99 Huntington St., New London.
