At the conclusion of the War he was discharged at Penobscot and then came with the Rest of the disband part of the Regiments to Saint Andrews in the County of Charlotte where he has remained ever since except a short time he served in the New Brunswick Fencibles, he is now an old infirm man and in very indigent circumstances and unable to earn a sufficiency to support himself from being a burden to such as may be so charitably disposed as to bestow upon him a part of their own scanty subsistance. He therefore craves your Honour's attention to his past services in the army which if considered worthy of compensation that you will grant him such aid as in your wisdom you may thin necessary to make him comfortable in his declining years. That for the last three years the said John Black resided with petitioner and owing to lameness and the infirmities of old age was in a very helpless condition & consequently required much care and attention up to the 3rd Inst when he died at the advanced age of 106 years, within about one month of the time when he would have been entitled to his said pension of Ten pounds, And petitioner in supplying his various wants during his last sickness (of several months circumstances) incurred a debt which was afterwards was added by the funeral expenses. That petitioner is a poor man, with a large helpless family and therefore unable to sustain so great a loss And under all these circumstances he humbly requests your Excellency and your Honors to grant him the Ten pounds that the said John Black would have been entitled to if he had lived to the 5th day of the next month, to assist him in paying his debts contracted as above mentioned.
